Gym Etiquette Tips
We all like to be treated with respect and decency- so it is important that we treat our fellow gym-goers in the way that we want to be treated. Rather like fine dining, there is a certain etiquette to adhere to when frequenting the gym. So no more laughing at a poor soul’s new yoga clothes or too-tight-shorts or knee-high socks. It’s time to be nice to each other. These helpful hints will let you in on how to do that.
Tip 1: Share and share alike. Time limits are set on certain pieces of gym equipment for a reason. When you are on a rest period let someone else complete their reps in between. Try and share whenever you can. You never know, you could make a new friend.
Tip 2: Bring a towel just assigned for wiping down equipment after you have used it. This is basic common courtesy in gym etiquette. How would you like it if you had to work out in someones sweat? Most gyms will usually provide wipes and antiseptic sprays nearby. Use them!
Tip 3: After a shower don’t parade around in your birthday suit. Some people may feel uncomfortable of just ill at the sight of a naked stranger. It doesn’t take much effort to wrap a towel around your body.
Tip 4: Keep noise to a minimum. Don’t shout into your cell phone or shout across the room to a fellow gym-goer. People come to the gym to work out, not bellow their lungs out. Keeping noise to a suitable level will also create a better environment where everyone feels comfortable.
Tip 5: If you are in the know then pass on the knowledge. Basically, if you see someone using a piece of gym equipment incorrectly then politely tell them. You will be surprised, most people will find this informative and helpful. Not only have you saved this person a lot of time and embarrassment, but you have probably saved the gym a lot of money in equipment repairs!
